How to Use the Typing Test
Our typing test is designed to be simple, intuitive, and highly accurate. Here's how to get started.
1. Click and Focus
Click anywhere inside the main panel to focus the typing area. The test will not start until you type your first character.
2. Start Typing
As soon as you type the first letter of the first word, the timer will begin counting down. Type the words as you see them.
3. See Your Results
Once the timer runs out, your results for Words Per Minute (WPM) and Accuracy will be displayed instantly.
Understanding Your Score
Your results are calculated using the industry-standard method to provide a clear and accurate measure of your typing proficiency.
What is WPM?
WPM stands for Words Per Minute. In the standard typing test definition, one "word" is considered to be five characters, including spaces. The formula is: (Total Correct Characters / 5) / (Time in Minutes). This method provides a fair and standardized measure regardless of the actual word lengths in the test.
What is Accuracy?
Accuracy is the percentage of correctly typed characters out of the total characters you typed (both correct and incorrect). High accuracy is just as important as high speed, as it reflects your precision and reduces the need for time-consuming corrections in real-world scenarios.

Frequently Asked Questions
Get quick answers to common questions about typing tests and improving your speed.
What is a good typing speed?
Typing speed is relative, but here's a general guide: 40 WPM is considered the average for an adult. 60-70 WPM is a good speed for most office jobs. Professional typists and programmers often type at speeds of 80-100+ WPM.
How can I improve my typing speed?
The two most important factors are proper technique and consistent practice. Ensure you are using all ten fingers and keeping your wrists straight (touch typing). Then, practice regularly with a tool like this one. Focus on accuracy first; speed will naturally follow as your muscle memory develops.
Do I need to correct my mistakes?
For the purpose of this test, you cannot go back to a previous word. You can use the backspace key to correct errors within the current word you are typing. This mimics a "flow state" of typing and prevents getting stuck. Uncorrected errors will negatively impact your final accuracy score.
